Claire Edwards MD, FACS

Dr. Claire Edwards is a fellowship-trained breast surgeon joining LMG Comprehensive Breast Center in October 2022. A native of Northern Virginia, she has been practicing in the area since completing her fellowship in breast surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. 

An expert in multidisciplinary treatment of breast cancer, Dr. Edwards’ interests also include benign breast conditions, genetic and other risk factors for breast cancer, breast conserving therapy, and nipple sparing mastectomy. She says:

“I pride myself on partnering with my patients and listening to their concerns. Communication is incredibly important, especially in difficult life circumstances, and I am always striving to excel at it. I am proud to be a part of LMG Cancer Center, where the doctor-patient relationship is central and multidisciplinary care is under one roof for the convenience of the patient.”

After graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, she attended the University of Virginia with a degree in Biology. She completed medical school at Duke University, where she was a Howard Hughes Medical Research Fellow. She completed residency in General Surgery at the George Washington University School of Medicine. 

She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been a Cancer Liaison Physician. She also is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and is on their “Question of the Week Committee,” which creates reviews of breast surgery topics for surgeons.  She has contributed to breast360.org, a website for patients. She is a Top Doctor in Washingtonian Magazine.

It is a thrill and a privilege to have Dr. Edwards as an integral part of the Comprehensive Breast Center.
